I used to get a lot of what-do-you-do with a 30 gb video ipod. Everybody told me the video on my ipod was useless. But thats more or less what marked my coming back home. I arrived so early at the Tucson airport itself, that there was nothing to do but sit and while away nearly 2-3 hours. And all I did was sit and watch the video of "yeh jo desh hai tera ....". Believe me, nothing could have made me feel more patriotic at that point of time :) . I was extremely nostalgic. I have always liked these lets say moments when you are thrust to be alone. Watching people living their lives around you, just getting lost in your own thoughts ......... it seems like you are in this ethereal world, where everything around you is going on as usual but you have this power to just stand and stare. :)
And ofcourse , the Tucson sunset from the airport was lovely as well.
India ... I had thought it would be difficult. Maybe I had become so used to a way of life, that it would be difficult to get back into the mould here. But how can you forget a way of life of two dozen years, how can you simply stop loving it or wanting to stay away from it. The colors, sights, sounds, ...... the taxi drivers screaming and shouting at each other and at pedestrians, people crossing the road anywhere and everywhere. If I get scared sitting in the front seat while driving on US freeways, I had better close my eyes while driving on any road in Kolkata. Taxis and cars always pass by within an inch of each other and without ever a scratch. I trust I will never acquire the same level of skill.
Shopping was equally fun, I was doing reverse conversion to gain an idea of how much to spend :). Very funny indeed !! But alas, as all good things must come to an end, I have another what week or so left at home. And I soooo don't want to go back.
On a sidenote, I got interviewed on a Bengali channel for new year and how I spent the past year, what I have planned for the next. :) No they did not get a dream that I was a yet-undiscovered celebrity and come to take my interview. They simply happened to land at the very restaurant called Charcoal where we had gone for dinner on new year's eve. They telecast it at midnight on 1st Jan on tv. Whatever :) but it was nice to see myself on tv for the first and the last time in my life and start the new year with that. :)
Happy new year!!
